Welcome to a daily Advent series for 2020.  This series will be written as we go, so that each day will be current with the events of this year.  My goal is that it will be more of a conversation between us each day.

How we can wait together.

So, with that in mind let me recommend a few things to you:
  1. Subscribe to this blog, so you will get this in your mailbox each day.  I won’t overwhelm you with a bunch of other emails.
  2. Leave comments at my FB page, so we can continue the conversation.
  3. Consider, stopping long enough each day to read this, light a candle and pray.
  4. Truly be open to the Holy Spirit’s voice.  As I write, I will promise to be open and sensitive to His leading. But He may have a very different intent for you, as you read. So, please let Him set the agenda.

The theme I’ve chosen is, “Who are we waiting for?”  This theme was inspired by Luke 4:18-19.

18 The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recover of sight to the blind, to set the oppressed free, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.

When Jesus came and the first opportunity to introduce himself, he read this passage from Isaiah 61:1-2 and he applied it to himself.  He read these verses, then he said “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” (Lk. 4:21)  In other words, “I am he.” I think Jesus did two things in doing this. He connected with the cry of the human heart. This passage describes people who desperately knew they needed something from God. And secondly, he proclaimed that he was the one who would come and meet us at our greatest point of need and bring healing and restoration.

This is what I hope and pray for this Advent season: that you will experience Christ and his His love. And that He will meet you at your greatest point of need and meet that need as only He can.

And now, let’s pray as we do this.

Father, Son and Spirit, as we enter this season of Advent help us live with a spirit of anticipation and hope. Give us the assurance we need that all we need has already come in Christ Himself. Remind us daily of your love for us and the world that is broken and lost. Fill us with a new joy that lives with and through our challenges with hope and joy. We give you this season and we give you our lives to restore and use for your glory. In the name of our only Savior, Jesus Christ, we pray, Amen.
