What Is “One Flesh?”

Last night Kris and I celebrated our 27th anniversary. These were the cards we gave each other. Both have boats on the front and both have the same words on the inside. Yet, they are different cards.

Makes me wonder is this what God meant? “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh (Genesis 2:24).” As we’ve lived and grown together we are one. What a joy!

It doesn’t mean we always agree. It doesn’t mean things are always smooth. And it doesn’t mean that we don’t sometimes misunderstand each other.

It does mean that as we share the same commitment to Christ, we grow closer and closer to each other. And we can’t imagine going through a day without each other.

Pursue “one flesh” with your husband or wife. It makes anniversaries fun when you give each other the same card.
